Selena
She is a singer, designer and a music pioneer. Her dual function as an Mexican American singer was traditional and contemporary. She helped bring Tejano into the mainstream in an innovative way. It was an emerging star whose untimely passing splintered it. It is also the case when a brilliant, genial young performer dies too soon and is buried, many mourned the greatness she was yet to attain. Fans have struggled through the years to keep her legacy alive. Selena's shooting death sparked emotions in the Latino culture that can be similar to Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. Selena was a wildly loved Latino artist across North America. Her music transcended boundaries and touched the hearts of youngsters as well as older adults. Selena was an asexual, flamboyant performer on stage and was often called her as the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was an excellent role model since she was active in anti-drug and AIDS campaigns.
